The most important one is the new compact table format and transparent zip-like compression of InnoDB tables and indexes in MySQL-5.0 and MySQL-5.1 that will save up to 75% of disk and memory space compared to the old format. A faster index creation will be implemented in 2005 for InnoDB tables. Tuuri also explores how to use the true-and-tested MySQL replication mechanism to build highly available, robust, and scalable InnoDB configurations that have an automatic failover mechanism.
