SessionOpen Source Business Intelligence
Barry Klawans, Chief Technical Officer, JasperSoft
Business Intelligence is a new area for open source software. While several of the essential building blocks for creating a BI system have been available as open source for the last few years, it is only in the last year that many of them have matured to a level where they are useful. This talk will include an introduction to Business Intelligence (BI), what it consists of, how it is used, and how the data design for BI is very different than that used for OLTP systems. There will be discussion of specific open source projects that can be used with MySQL to create an end-to-end BI solution, including Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) tools, analysis tools and reporting. At the end of this presentation the attendee should have an understanding of what BI is, and how to set up a Data Mart on MySQL and use it to gain insight into their data.
